Characterized by thin roof pillars, fastback styling and smooth aerodynamics, the 1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner symbolized 1960s jet-age design. This body style was built only two years and sold primarily in the Southeastern United States, due to NASCAR's popularity. The Starliner platform was ideal for Ford Factory teams to build a limited number of race cars. The Factory Rated 401 horsepower, 6-barrel carburetor 4-speed manual transmission shaped the Starliner's winning reputation, but few survivors exist today.
This Monte Carlo Red Starliner was built at the Norfolk, VA, Ford assembly plant on November 26, 1960, and drag raced in Georgia billed as 'Mr. 401.' The original dealer price was $3,042, due to required Super High-Performance features.
