This 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham rests on the extended 133-inch wheelbase platform, and it has a model-specific body with sharply defined lines, vertical headlights, a long hood, and subtle fins above the tail lights. The 429 cubic-inch overhead valve V8 engine delivered 340 horsepower at 4,600 RPM and is paired with a Hydra-Matic converter automatic transmission. There are four-wheel drum brakes an independent front suspension with coil springs, and a rear 4-link drive setup with coil springs and hydraulic shock absorbers.
This Fleetwood Brougham is in original and unrestored condition with its original Sable Black paintwork with a padded Black vinyl top that is unique to the Brougham. The seats are upholstered in Beige Delmont cloth and adorned with delicate embroidered patterns on the seatbacks. The door panels have chromed switches for the power windows, locks, and remote mirror. There is plush carpeting and genuine walnut trim, and the rear passenger compartment has folding vanity trays, folding carpeted footrests, and swiveling reading lamps. Additional amenities include automatic air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo, automatic level control, and steel wheels with full-diameter hubcaps and whitewall radial tires.
Currently, the Cadillac has just over 30,000 miles on its odometer. It was acquired new from Criss Cadillac of Providence, Rhode Island, by Mr. and Mrs. Waite of Providence. Upon her death in 1970, Mrs. Waite willed this Brougham to a close friend, Walter Miller, who maintained the car and drove it minimally. When Mr. Miller passed away in 1988, the car was sparingly driven by his wife Myrtle, and the car remained in the Miller family until 2006. It was purchased at an estate sale by H. Fred Caldwell of Cramerton, North Carolina.
In May 2007, Mr. Caldwell presented his Cadillac at the AACA's Southeastern Spring Meet, and the car was recognized as an HPOF car, a non-judged accolade for cars that feature Historical Preservation of Original Features. In 2007, it was shown at the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance in a class focusing on post-war Cadillacs. Near the close of the year, it was acquired by the previous owner. In January 2011, the Cadillac was purchased by the Academy of Art University Museum at Gooding & Company's Scottsdale auction.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2023
