1969 Ford Fairlane Torino GT Cobra Hardtop Coupe

Ford's entry into the budget-muscle car was the Fairlane Cobra 428. They featured a competition suspension with staggered rear shocks, F70x14 tires and hood-lock pins, and a 428 cubic-inch V8 engine. The powerplant was rated at 335 horsepower (but was probably closer to 400 horsepower). They had a 116 inch wheelbase and weighed 3,490 lbs. The starting price was $3,200 and 14,000 were produced in total.

This Fairlane Cobra was originally purchased as a pure drag race car and was campaigned in the Milwaukee area through 1973. It was built with a rare combination of options including a radio delete, 428 SJ engine, steel wheels, 'poverty caps' and vinyl roof. The early non-ram air Cobras did not include a hood scoop as standard and it was not selected for this car.

This car was one of 86 produced in this particular paint, trim and powertrain, and was priced at $3,450. It was stored for 24 years after retiring from racing and underwent a full restoration that was completed in May of 2010.
