1930 Buick Series 40 Navigation
For 1930, the Buick Series 40 received a new vertically mounted, thermostatically controlled shutter system. Also, the car was lowered by two inches and given a new body belt line. They had a wheelbase that measured 118 inches and powered by an overhead valve six-cylinder engine producing 80 horsepower. There was a three-speed sliding gear transmission with floor shift controls and a multiple disc clutch.
Buick offered three series for 1930, the 40, 50, and the top-of-the-line and most powerful 60 models.
The Sports Roadster was a limited production body style that was restored in the late 1980s and remains in very nice overall condition in modern time. The car was once part of the Sterling McCall Museum and is currently painted in cream yellow accented by dark brown fenders. The car has antique walnut brown upholstery and a tan Haartz fabric top with side curtains, boot and rear spare tire cover. Other features include a rumble seat, golf club side door, factory correct oak spoke wheels, whitewall tires, auxiliary headlights and side lamps, and a wood steering wheel.
In 2010, this Sports Roadster was offered for sale at the Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook event presented by RM Auctions. The car was estimated to sell for $35,000 - $45,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $35,750, including buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Aug 2010
