1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 Navigation
Shelby Automotive built a notchback body prototype in 1968, which received the nickname 'The Green Hornet.' It was outfitted as a Mustang GT/CS prototype and received an experimental 428 Cobra Jet X engine and the stock transmission was replaced with a Shelbyized unit - an F350 truck transmission with a Lincoln torque converter and cast iron tail shaft. The car was covered with gold luster green acrylic with gold metal flecks, applied by custom painter Sonny Fee, and custom white stripes with EXP500 insignia were applied along the rocker panels to identify this car as a Shelby prototype. The Green Hornet was tested at Ford's Romeo proving grounds in Michigan, where it achieved an average of 157 mph for two 10-mile laps (using a 3.01 rear axle ratio). A 0-to-60 time of 5.7 seconds and 0-to-100 of 11.41 seconds were also recorded.Source - Vehicle Owner
