1972 BMW 2002 Sedan

BMW's Isetta may have financially saved the company during the late-1950s, but the 'Neue Klasse' sport sedans, defined the company's identity for the ensuing years. BMW's crowning achievement of the sports sedan concept to-date and the car that perhaps best justifies the company motto, 'The Ultimate Driving Machine,' is the 2002tii. Produced from 1971 to 1975, BMW built 38,703 of the special 2002's dubbed 'tii.' 'Ti' simply denotes touring international, while the additional 'i' refers to Kugelfischer fuel injection giving the car a 30 horsepower boost (to 140) over its carbureted stablemate.

During the production lifespan, BMW sold more than 860,000 examples of the 2002 worldwide. This example was purchased May 19, 1972, new, by the owner for $4,700. It was delivered to Frankfurt Germany and was then shipped to Baltimore, Maryland, where it was picked up by the owner and his family. They drove the car back to Charleston, West Virginia, and it has been with the owner or his father since. It is a one-owner treasure that has won multiple awards.

This completely original example finished in Verona Red has never seen rain nor has it been outside overnight. All documentation, including the original window sticker and service records, remains with the car.
