The 1947 Chevrolet had a strong resemblance to its prewar counterpart. There were several changes but all were minimal. This was a significant year for Chevrolet. Sales of 684,145 units made Chevrolet the number one automobile manufacturer, outselling Ford.
The Fleetline Aero Sedan was Chevrolet's most popular offering for 1947. Built on a 116-inch wheelbase chassis, it was powered by a 216.5 cubic-inch Chevrolet inline six that developed 90 horsepower.
This Chevrolet Fleetline Aerosedan has wood trim and sports a number of authentic factory accessories. It features the dealer-installed Country Club trim package, driving lights, backup lights, vent window screens, folded down trunk guard, umbrella holder, wing tips on the rear bumper, GM tissue dispenser, radiator overflow tank, deluxe steering wheel, and vacuum shift.
For 1947, the six-cylinder overhead valve engine displaced 216.5 cubic inches and delivered 90 horsepower. They featured a three-speed manual gearbox and rode on a 116-inch wheelbase. There were two body styles available, a four-door Sports Master Sedan and an attractive 2-door Aerosport Sedan. There were 159,407 examples of the aero sedan produced in 1947 and 54,531 examples of the four-door sedan.
A 1948 North Carolina inspection sticker suggests the car may have started life in that state. Since being acquired by the present owner in October of 2008, some additional detailing has taken place, resulting in this elegant example.
