1985 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Navigation
In 1980, Rolls-Royce was purchased by Vickers PLC. In 1981, the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit was launched. Mechanically, the Silver Spirit was designed to meet new international safety and emission regulations. Years later, in 1989, the long-wheelbase Silver Spur was introduced. It was four inches longer than the Spirit. The Spirit of Ecstasy was no longer fixed to the grille, but designed to retract into the radiator shell upon impact. A new suspension system with automatic ride height control gave the car a better ride.
The Silver Spur arrived in 1990. It had a revised fascia, with a new leather-bound steering wheel, an electronic gear selection display and an automatic ride control system. It had a similar floor plan to its predecessor. Power was from a 6.75-liter V8 engine from the Silver Shadow. The Silver Spur featured ABS, fuel injection, automatic hydraulic ride height control system, gas-charged shock absorbers, and alloy wheels.
This Silver Spur long-wheelbase has had a single owner since new. It has spent its entire life in Southern California and has traveled a mere 26,000 miles.
In 2010, the car was offered for sale at the Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia auction presented by Bonhams. As bidding came to a close, it had been sold for the sum of $34,515 inclusive of buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2010
