1951 Chrysler New Yorker Navigation
The New Yorker was Chrysler's top-of-the-line model. It had a wheelbase size that was longer than the Windsor and Saratoga models by a full six inches. Body styles included a club coupe, sedan, convertible, Newport, and a Town & Country Wagon. Pricing ranged from $3,350 - $4,455.
Chrysler engineering introduced a new potent Firepower engine in the Fifties. It was called the Hemi and utilized a hemispherical combustion chamber. The HEMI V-8 was the most powerful of the industry's postwar overhead-valve engines. It was initially offered on the 1951 Chrysler New Yorker.
A New Yorker Convertible was selected to pace the 1951 Indianapolis 500.
The 1951 New Yorker was the first American production car with power steering and Oriflow shock absorbers, both creations of the Chrysler Corporation.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2010
