This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is a European model that has detailed records that dates back to 1979, when it was purchased by Mr. Allen or Allerton, Illinois. At the time, the car had just 41,880 original miles on the odometer. Mr. Allen had the car sent to Motorkraft Limited for a full service and a complete rebuild of the engine's top end.
In 1984, the car was sold to Mr. Foster of Danville, Illinois. At the time, the car had almost 84,000 miles. Mr. Foster treated the car to a professional cosmetic restoration. During the re-assembly, a set of headlight covers was installed along with a set of five Borrani wire spoke wheels and correct Pirelli tires.
In 1996, the car was sold to Mr. Bard Wolf of Given, West Virginia, and kept the car until 2000 when he sold it to Abacus of vintage racing specialists Abacus of Hampton Roads with 53,060 miles. The car remained in their care for seven years where it was given excellent care and given a new tan leather interior, door panels and carpets.
This vehicle has many options including air conditioning, power windows (and wing windows), variable ratio power steering and 55,149 original miles. The single overhead camshaft all alloy V-12 engine breathes through three twin choke Weber carburetors and offers 320 horsepower. There are ventilated disc brakes and a five-speed manual gearbox.
In 2010, the car was offered for sale at the Sports & Classics of Monterey presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $120,000 - $160,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $181,500 inclusive of buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2010
