1970 Subaru 360 Coupe

The Subaru 360 was the company's first major attempt at producing automobiles. The vehicle was meant for entry-level buyers and constructed to conform to the 'kei car' formula, which granted concessions and exemptions to very small vehicles.

This vehicle was given a restoration in 1979, 1989, and 1995 by its second owner. In 1999, it was outfitted as a New Zealand police car. It is painted in the archetypal black-and-white pattern and has a multi-color police light bar on the roof, siren, front bumper push bar, and New Zealand police decals on the doors. It has a two-way radio and a lock-up rack for a rifle on the dashboard and two 'bobby' police hats.

The engine is a twin-cylinder, two-stroke engine that displaces 356cc and produces 25 horsepower. There is a four-speed manual transmission and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.

In 2010, this car was offered for sale at the Sports & Classics of Monterey offered by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $15,000 - $20,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for $16,500, inclusive of the buyer's premium.
