Targa Coupe
Designer: Bertone
Chassis #: ZBBBS00A2H7161777
The Fiat X1/9 Sports Car, in contrast to earlier Fiats, introduced a transverse mid-engine layout, with a targa-style removable roof. They were designed by Marcello Gandini with the bodies built by Bertone, then sent to Fiat for mechanical assembly. When Fiat exited from the United States market in 1982, it marked a major shift in X1/9 production. Bertone took over the complete production cycle, and U.S. sales and service were given to International Automobile Importers, Inc., headed by Malcolm Bricklin. 1987 was the last year for U.S. sales. Total production for the X1/9 ended in 1989.This red X1/9 is an original car that has been fitted with a Pioneer tape deck. The engine is a 1498cc inline overhead cam four-cylinder engine delivering 75 horsepower. There is a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes.
In 2011, the car was offered for sale at RM Auctions' Arizona sale where it was estimated to sell for $4,000 - $8,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $3,575 including buyer's premium.
