1953 Aston Martin DB2 Drophead Coupe

The DB2 was announced in April of 1950 to coincide with the New York Auto Show. Sales of about 100 cars resulted from the 1950 New York Auto Show, which helped give the company financial security in the post-War Era.

This DB2 Vantage Drophead Coupe is chassis number LML/50/376 and is one of 98 examples produced between 1950 and 1953. It is one of about 75 left-hand drive DB2 Drophead coupes produced. It is a US-delivery example that has a mostly known ownership history from new. It was sold new on November 24th of 1953 via Arnolt to Louis Comito of Rosyln, New York, and subsequent owners include Charlie Turner, Gene Garratt, Albert Schneider, Nick Candee, Everett Smith and Steve Mayo.

The car has had a complete body-off-frame restoration. It is painted in Fiesta Red with a grey leather upholstery with red piping, red carpeting and a black cloth top. The 2580cc DOHC Vantage six-cylinder engine has dual SU carburetors and is capable of producing around 125 horsepower. There is a four-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.

In 2011, the car was offered for sale at RM Auction's Arizona sale where it was estimated to sell for $260,000 - $320,000. Bidding reached $245,000 but was not enough to satisfy the reserve. It would leave the auction unsold.
