1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Cabriolet

The Alfa Romeo 6C name was used on a series of road, race, and sports cars built from 1927 to 1954. The '6C' name refers to the car's straight-six engine. This car is the fifth generation, a 2500 SS.

Introduced in 1938, the 2500 was the last 6C road car. Vittorio Jano and Wilfredo Ricard designed the double overhead cam engine and this top-of-the-line SS (Super Sport) version was fitted with three Weber carburetors, making 145 horsepower with a top speed of 124 miles per hour.

The 6C 2500SS is the ultimate variant of the old-style elegance and post-war speed. The '6C' name was used from 1973 to 1954 on road, race, and sports cars and referred to its inline six-cylinder engine which was developed under the guidance of Vittorio Jano and Wifredo Ricart. With three special Weber Carburetors, this dual-overhead-cam six-cylinder engine developed 125 horsepower and, coupled with a four-speed transmission, propels all 3,420 pounds to a top speed of 125 miles per hour. Three variants were built Post-War, including two closed versions - one by Touring and one in-house by Alfa Romeo. A total of 383 chassis were produced in a four-year span.

This car has a steel ladder frame chassis, a 106.3-inch short wheelbase, and it features a body by Pininfarina. Costly in its time, it was sold to wealthy customers like King Farouk, Ali Khan, Rita Hayworth, Tyrone Power, and Prince Rainier. One was also featured in the movie The Godfather in 1972.
