The Mercedes-Benz 36/220S was manufactured in 1927 and 1928 at the Daimler-Benz factory in Stuttgart. Just 146 of the S (Sport) model, designed by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, were produced. The Mercedes-Bnez S Rennwagen, or racecar, first appeared at the German Grand Prix in 1927; S models finished first, second and third, with Mercedes driver Rudolf Caracciola taking the win.
