1915 Mercedes 28/60 HP Tourer

From the start Mercedes cars were elegantly designed for high performance and favored by royalty and financiers of the old and the new world. Many others switched allegiance when in 1914 Mercedes placed first, second and third in the French Grand Prix.

After starting life as an open torpedo, this 28/60 was rebodied by the Mercedes factory as an open-front town car in 1917. As the current owner was restoring the car, it was decided to build an exact replica of the original torpedo coachwork. Early cars often had summer and winter bodies. The tools needed for this seasonal transformation are stowed under the bonnet.
