The Hispano-Suiza K6 was introduced at the Paris Auto Salon in 1934. It was offered as a rolling chassis only, with a 5-liter straight-6 engine derived from an earlier Ballot engine design. The chassis was identical to that of the larger Hispano-Suiza J12 and many coachbuilders offered similar open and closed bodies for both the K6 and the J12. Between 1934 and 1938 a total of 204 K6 chassis were built in the Paris factory.
This Hispano-Suiza K6, with custom coachwork by Fernandez & Darrin, was delivered new to a gentleman in England. It features a three-position drop-head cabriolet, one of three remaining. The K6 was introduced in 1934 and remained in production through 1937.
This car was never used as a show car but, instead, participated in rallies in England until acquired by the current owner in 2003.
Fernandez & Darrin was a collaboration between Howard 'Dutch' Darrin and J. Fernandez, a wealthy, Argentine-born Parisian banker (the company was located in Paris). Fernandez & Darrin remained in business from 1932-37.
Hispano-Suiza means, literally, 'Spanish-Swiss.' The company was based in Spain and was well-known for its aircraft engines.
This example, one of three remaining in the world, was first delivered to its owner in England. It features a three-position cabriolet. It remained in England until 2003, and for much of its life, it regularly participated in tours and rallies. It was acquired by its current owner in 2003.
