1907 Cadillac Model M Navigation
Cadillac's single-cylinder automobile would survive until 1908, even though they had introduced a four-cylinder model in 1905. The single-cylinder model was popular, but by 1908, Cadillac realized the market was disappearing.
A trio of Cadillac Model K's triumphed in the Dewar competition in England, being disassembled, their parts scrambled, reassembled and easily started. This earned Cadillac the Dewar Trophy and led to the slogan 'The Standard of the World.'
In 1906, Cadillac introduced new single-cylinder models named the K and M, which differed only in wheelbase (the M was two inches longer). For 1907, the front fender contour was flattened, and a factory-installed Victoria top became available, adding $100 to the $950 price.
This Model K was discovered in England and brought back to the United States. It was once part of the Harrah Collection in Nevada. The current owner acquired it from the Al Wiseman Collection in Florida in 2007. The car has been given a restoration which took eight years to complete. It has a black body over a red chassis with matching colored wheels.
The horizontal single-cylinder engine displaces 98.2 cubic inches and produces 10 horsepower. There is a two-speed planetary transmission and dual differential-mounted brakes.
In 2011, this Touring Car was offered for sale at the St John's Auction presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $40,000 - $60,000. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $46,750, including buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2011
