Bowes Seal Fast Special
Sold for $2,000,000 at 2011 Mecum Auctions - Monterey, CA The Daytime Auction.
This 1931 Miller Bowes Seal Fast Special finished first place at the Indianapolis 500 in 1931. Wearing number 23, it was driven by Louis Schneider with riding mechanic 'Jigger' Johnson. For the 1931 race, the earlier Miller 122 cubic-inch engine was bored out to 151 cubic-inches, and that engine is in the car today. Qualifying 13th with an average speed of 107.21 mph, this car won the grueling race with an average speed of 96.629 mpg.

It finished 3rd on the lead lap in 1930 and was a prolific performer throughout the 1930s. The 'Bowes Seal Fast Special' competed at Indianapolis in eight of the ten years it remained competitive.

This Miller has been restored to its famous winning Black and White 'Bowes Seal Fast' livery, number 23. It is powered by a Miller 122 cubic-inch engine that was bored to 151 cubic-inches for 1931. Its ownership lineage is traceable back to the original race debut.
