The 1926 Oldsmobile was powered by a 169 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine offering 40 horsepower. They had a selective sliding gear manual transmission and two-wheel service brakes. Standard and Deluxe versions of most series cars were available. Bodystyles included a roadster, coupe, tourer, sedan, and Landau sedan. The wheelbase measures 110.5 inches and rode on 30 x 4.95 tires. Oldsmobile used a cord material for the upholstery for the closed cars and leather for the open models.
Ransom E. Olds had left Oldsmobile to form the REO marque. During the history of the Oldsmobile Company, it was renowned for its quality, engineering and style. For the 1926 model year, the company continued its one-model, one-engine strategy, but with new deluxe trim levels available on most of their models. Sales and production were strong, with nearly 59,000 units sold during the year.
This 1926 Model 30-D Touring car was purchased by the current owner in April of 2005. The car has been treated to a restoration since new, finished in Dupont Duco finish in the correct Moleskin Gray and Russian Brown with Scarlet striping. There is correct lacquer body finish with black enamel used for the fenders and running gear. Prior to the restoration, the car was found in original condition in an Aurora, Colorado barn and only displayed surface rust. Currently, the car rides on the natural oak artillery wheels, and the chromium-plated radiator is correct for 1926, the introductory year of this feature at Oldsmobile.
In 2011, this car was offered for sale at the Hershey, PA auction presented by RM Auctions. The car was estimated to sell for $20,000 - $30,000. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $18,150 inclusive of buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2011
