1948 Cadillac Series 60 Special Fleetwood Navigation
During World War II, all domestic auto production ceased as manufacturing plants converted to building wartime tanks, aircraft, and other much-needed military goods. With the end of hostilities in 1945, auto assembly lines resumed building cars at breakneck speed with the 1946 model year. Cadillacs for 1946-47 received only a minor styling facelift and were to a large extent the same design as the pre-war 1942 models.
The 1948-49 Cadillac was the first post-war all-new design from General Motors and featured the now-famous aircraft-inspired tailfin look. The tailfin on Cadillac designs continued to grow, reaching its zenith in 1959 and disappearing until the 1970 model year.
Powering the 1948 Cadillac Sixty Special was a 346 cubic-inch V8 engine rated at 150 horsepower. The four-door sedan sold for the sum of $3,820.
