In 1852 the Studebaker brothers of South Bend, IN opened a humble blacksmith shop and began building wagons. During the Civil War they supplied horse-drawn vehicles to the Union Army and eventually became the largest builder in the world. At the turn of the century, Studebaker began building bodies for several electric car manufacturers before offering their own electric car in 1902. When Studebaker produced its last vehicle in 1966, it had been in business for 114 years.
This President Eight, which was known for being spacious, stylish, and powerful, was Studebaker's top-of-the-line model for 1929. Over 100 speed and endurance records, some of which stood for more than thirty years, were set by the Studebaker President series.
