1970 Porsche 911E Coupe

The 911 E was introduced in 1969 and was developed as the middle model and fitted with fuel injection, but produced slight less horsepower than the 911 S. Porsche also introduced their Sportomatic, which featured a 'clutchless manual' gearbox with a torque converter and a four-speed manual box. The new Porsche models were given an increase in displacement size to 2.2 liters.

The 2.2-liter 911 E was dubbed 'the secret weapon from Zuffenhausen.' The 911 E could accelerate up to 160 km/h (100) more quickly than the 911 S.

This Porsche 911E 2.2 Coupe is powered by a 2195cc single overhead cam flat six-cylinder engine fitted with a Bosch Mechanical fuel injection system. The engine produces 155 horsepower and there is a five-speed manual gearbox. There are disc brakes at all four corners and there is an independent suspension system.

The car left the factory finished in Conda green over a black leatherette interior - the same color it wears today - and fitted with the optional Fuchs alloy wheels and the optioned rear bumper apron-grille.

The car was destined for the United States delivery, with specifications such as an MPH speedometer and red turn-signal lenses. The first owner was Wayne Rindt of Appleton, Wisconsin, who kept the car until 1976 where Margaret Tarbert of Milwaukee is believed to have acquired it. After her passing, ownership passed to her brother Joseph Canfield in 1989. Mr. Canfield embarked on some mechanical and cosmetic re-commissioning in the early 1990s. In 2006, the current owner acquired the car.

Currently, the car shows 96,000 miles on the odometer.

In 2012, the car was offered for sale at the Gooding & Company auction in Scottsdale, Az. It was estimated to sell for $75,000 - $95,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $63,250 inclusive of buyer's premium.
