1983 Jaguar XJR-5 IMSA Racing Coupe

This vehicle is a 1983 Jaguar Group 44 XJR-5 IMSA racing Coupe with chassis number 009. It is an ex-Brian Redman and Hurley Haywood car. It was constructed on November 14th of 1983. It finished 3rd at Atlanta, 3rd at Charlotte, and 3rd at Watkins Glen during 1984. Its first victory came at Atlanta in 1985 where Brian Redman and Hurley Haywood outpaced the rest of the field to a first place finish. The following race, the car was involved in an accident and failed to finish. This was its second DNF of the season, the first being at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The car would experience three more DNF's before the seasons end. When it did finish, it scored well, usually a second or third place finish. It managed a second at Lime Rock, Charlotte, and the Daytona 3-Hour race. Third place finishes were awarded at Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio, and Watkins Glen. It finished in fourth at Portland.

In September of 1987, this car was treated to a restoration. It was sold the following year to Peter Kaus of Germany for his Rosso Bianco Collection. This car was offered for sale at the 2006 Bonhams & Butterfields auction held at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California where it was estimated to sell between $140,000 - $160,000. Bidding quickly surpassed the estimated value and reached into the 230,000's before a new owner was found. The winning bid was $238,000.
