1957 Oldsmobile Starfire Ninety-Eight Convertible

In the post-World War II era, Oldsmobile built an elegant line of automobiles aimed at the growing affluent middle class market. Their vehicles became better equipped and given many standard features that were extra-cost options with the competition. Besides luxury, Oldsmobile also led the performance charge in 1949 with the introduction of overhead-valve 'Rocket' V8 engine. The engine grew from 303 cubic-inches to 371 cubic-inches and horsepower rose to nearly 300 bhp by 1957.

Oldsmobile proved their products and grew their reputation with five NASCAR victories with drivers Lee and Richard Petty, prior to the 1957 AMA racing ban. The success was well received with buyers, who made Oldsmobile fifth in the sales ranking.

This 1957 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire Convertible is powered by a 371 cubic-inch V8 engine fitted with Rochester Quadra-Jet four-barrel carburetion and produces 277 horsepower. There is a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. It is a restored example that is finished in Allegheny Green exterior finish with a white convertible top. There are Oldsmobile's tri-bar 'spinner' hubcaps and whitewall tires. There is factory-correct tri-tone leather upholstery in white, light green and darker green. There are correct emblems, finishes, a period-style battery and a single four-barrel carburetor induction system. Also found on this vehicle is power steering, power windows, power front seat, power top, clock and a factory AM radio.
