1901 Packard Model C Navigation
Packard built their first automobile in 1899, making it one of the oldest car companies in America. They began as the Ohio Automobile Company based in Warren, Ohio before becoming the Packard Motor Car Company in 1902. The following year, they moved to Detroit.
The 1901 Model C was one of James Ward Packard's earliest models of which just 81 examples were built. It was the first car to feature a steering wheel at a time when most automobiles still utilized a tiller. Power was from a 183 cubic-inch engine offering 12 horsepower and rode on a 76-inch wheelbase. It was also one of the first cars to use the common 'H' shift pattern for the transmission. It sold new from the factory for $1,500.
The body of this car features one seat in the front for the driver and two center-facing rear seats.
