This 1978 Jaguar XJ-S was delivered from Jaguar Cars in Coventry, England, as an acid-dipped 'body-in-white' to Group 44's headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. The team, led by project manager Brian Fuerstenau and crew chief Lawton 'Lanky' Foushee, built it to campaign in the 1978 Trans-Am season. Group 44 president Bob Tullius drove it in all ten 1978 Category I Trans-Am meetings, winning seven, with one second and one third. The final event of the 1978 season was called the Copa Mexico Trans-Am, held at the Ricardo Rodriguez Autodrome in Mexico City on November 5. Tullius finished in first place, clinching the Manufacturer's Title. Driver's Title had been secured after winning at Road America in September. Group 44 kept the car after the 1978 season.
The current owner was fortunate enough to acquire it from Bob Tullius in December of 2007, after 30 years in storage. The car appears exactly as it did after finishing the race in Mexico City.
