1988 Porsche 944 Turbo Coupe / WPOAA2957JN151272 Chassis Information

1988 Porsche 944 Turbo
Coupe
Chassis #: WPOAA2957JN151272
Sold for $82,500 at 2012 Gooding & Company, Amelia Island, Fl.
The Porsche 944 Turbo was introduced in 1986 and carried the internal designation of Type 951. Two years later, Porsche introduced the Turbo S with a more robust 250 horsepower engine. Along with the additional power, the Turbo S received numerous suspension upgrades, an external transmission oil cooler, 928 S4 brakes, a limited-slip differential and Club Sport design wheels similar to the Design 90 wheel. With all the improvements, the Turbo S was essentially a road-going variant of the racing Turbo Cup 944s. It had great stopping power, exceptional performance and superior handling.

In 1989, the Turbo S designation was dropped, but the S package included with the cars remained in subsequent 944 Turbo models. Porsche exported just 1,874 examples of the 944 Turbo to the United States for the 1988 model year and production of the Turbo S was limited to just 1,000.

This Turbo S model was originally finished in Silver Rose with a burgundy plaid interior. It was delivered to MVP Inc. of Merriville, Indiana. It came equipped with the optional Blaupunkt Reno radio, automatic speed control and a removable sunroof with electric tilt.

The car shows just 718 original miles and the car has been well cared for - being stored for much of its existence. It retains its original window sticker, books, keys, touch-up paint, brochure and dealer directory. The 2479cc single overhead cam four-cylinder engine is fitted with a single KKK turbocharger. There is a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with servo-assisted rear brakes.

In 2012, this car was offered for sale at the Amelia Island sale presented by Gooding & Company. It was estimated to sell for $50,000 - $65,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $82,500 inclusive of buyer's premium.
