1972 BMW 2002 Sedan

BMW sold just 7,449 examples of the high-performance 2002tii in the United States from 1972 to 1974. These models (1972-73) are distinguished by their round taillights and thin chrome bumpers. The 'tii' versions had upgrades over the standard 2002 models including Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection and higher compression for the two-liter engine, together with enhanced suspension and larger front brakes.

Powering this example is a 1990cc single overhead cam four-cylinder engine offering 130 horsepower. There is a four-speed manual gearbox with disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear. It is an authentic US model that was manufactured on April 27th of 1972. It has been in a private collection for many years and a previous owner gave it a sympathetic restoration with thoughtful upgrades.

The car has been painted in its original color of Riviera Blue, and later-style alloy wheels were added to enhance the ride, handling and appearance. Inside, there is an aftermarket wood steering wheel, original Becker Grand Prix radio and speaker. There is also a hidden stereo with a CD player concealed in the glove box.

In 2012, this car was offered for sale at Amelia Island sale presented by Gooding & Company. The car was estimated to sell for $25,000 - $35,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $19,250 inclusive of buyer's premium.
