This Maserati 8CM was purchased new by Lord Howe in 1934. Lord Howe was born in Mayfair, London and was 44 years old before seriously entering the land of automotive racing. He would become one of Britain's best known drivers. His first major race was the 1929 Irish TT. A short time later, he purchased Caracciola's Mercedes SSK before moving to an Alfa Romeo for the 1931 season and winning the Le Mans 24 Hour race. Future cars included a Type 51 Bugatti, a Delage, MG, and Alfa Romeo's. In 1936, he purchased an ERA and would later join the ERA works team.By Daniel Vaughan | May 2012
