1939 Maserati 4CL Navigation
This Maserati 4CL was delivered on May 29th of 1939 to Johnny Wakefield who campaigned it until the outbreak of the War. Wakefield passed away in 1942, after which, the car was purchased by Reg Parnell. It was raced extensively by Parnell between 1946 and 1948. David Murray raced the vehicle in 1948 and 1949.
Parnell upgraded the engine with a twin-stage supercharged engine. It was later used by Ambrosiana team as a spare during 1950 before passing via John Green to Bobby Baird in 1951.
George Weaver of the United States was the vehicles next owner, followed by a British, Swiss, and then German owner. In the mid-2000s, it was purchased by Georg Kaufmann of Switzerland and used in vintage competition.By Daniel Vaughan | May 2012
