The 508S Balilla Sport competition version was inspired by an original design by Carrozzeria Ghia. Based on the 508 Balilla saloon, FIAT purchased the rights and manufactured two versions, the Coppa d'Oro (Gold Cup) and lightweight Mille Miglia. Both of the names were chosen after the demanding long distance events.
The original Balilla was powered by a tuned version of the saloon's 995cc four-cylinder side-valve engine Driving the rear wheels was a three-speed gearbox and installed in a cruciform braced chassis equipped with Lockheed hydraulic brakes and riding on wire wheels.

The second series was introduced in 1934 and brought with it a four-speed synchromesh gearbox and an overhead-valve engine offering 46 bhp.

This Fiat 508 is an open two-seater that originally was a convertible that was later re-bodied as a Balilla Sport. It is finished in red with black interior and was restored in 2011

In 2012, the car was offered for sale at Bonhams auction in Monaco where it was estimated to sell for €60,000 - 80,000. As bidding came to a close, the car failed to find a buyer willing to satisfy the reserve. It would leave the auction unsold.
