1915 Packard 1-35 California Top Tourer

Packard introduced the Twin Six engine in May 1915 for the 1916 model year. The engine was a 424 cubic-inch V12 offering 85 horsepower. The cars rode on a 135-inch wheelbase chassis with 37-inch wheels. Approximately 4,140 were produced and only 17 are known to remain today.

This example was purchased by a Mr. R. Giroux from the Earle C. Anthony dealership in Los Angeles, California as an early 'pre-production' car. He owned the car for over five decades and used it to travel to his silver mine in Carson City, NV. It is the only Brewster body 'California Top' known to exist on a Packard chassis. The uniquely designed body features windows that fold into doors providing an open pillar-less body. The body is built using 4 types of wood. The interior could be closed off in very little time during inclement weather. The body alone cost about $9,000. The car includes an onboard air compressor and an air-pressurized fuel system.
