As 1962 came to a close, Chevrolet introduced the all-new 1963 String Ray. Chevrolet made sure that racers such as Bob Bondurant, Dave McDonald, and Jerry Grant were among the first to receive Corvette coupes equipped with the special Z06 road racing package.
The Z06 was offered through normal channels and came equipped with the 360 horsepower, 327 fuel-injected engine, 4-speed transmission, positraction rear, a fiberglass 36.5-gallon fuel tank for long distance endurance racing, special brakes, and master cylinder and five cast aluminum wheels with knock-off nuts.
This Corvette Z06 was originally purchased by a local General Motors employee with the full intent of racing, primarily at the Waterford Hills Race Track in southeast Michigan. The car was given a roll bar and properly prepared to racing trim. A full Concours quality restoration was recently completed for the current owner.
