1968 Chevrolet Camaro Series 24 V8 Coupe

Penske Racing's Camaro dominated the 1968 Trans-Am championship season as no other car has since, winning ten of 13 championship races from Sebring in March to Kent, Washington in October.

The championship-winning Sunoco Camaro is the result of Team Penske and Mark Donohue's efforts to optimize the handling, braking and track manners of the Chevrolet Camaro. A 'quick-fill' pressurized oil feature and a vacuum system to retract brake pads resulted in faster pit stops and increased racing time.

Their dedication to excellence and a business-like approach to racing made the 1968 Trans-Am Champion the winningest car in the half-century history of the series capturing the first of three consecutive Penske Trans-Am Championships.

This is probably the most famous Camaro ever built. This 1968 Penske-Donahue Z/28 Camaro walked away with 10 out of 11 Trans-Am victories in 1968, making it the winningest Trans-Am car ever to compete. This car, known as the Sunoco Camaro, is the result of Mark Donahue and Penske Racing's efforts to perfect the handling, braking and track manners of the Camaro. They wanted to construct a machine that was flawless in both reliability and performance on the Trans-Am circuit. A lot of people said the 1968 Penske Camaro was full of 'unfair advantages.' Mark Donahue and the Penske team stretched the rule book to its limits to construct the nearly perfect machine.
