The Lotus Elan Sprint was in production from 1971 through 1973, with a total of 1,343 examples produced. This example, chassis number 45/6015, is a second-year model Sprint, and features Tony Rudd's Big-Valve cylinder head which resulted in a quoted 126 horsepower for the European spec twin Weber, or Dell'Orto, carburetors set-up. America demanded twin Strombergs and crossover pipes from the exhaust side to accompany the Federalized 'earless' knock-off road wheels. 126 horsepower in a car weighing 14-cwt (hundredweight) or 1596 lb did not provide rocket power by muscle car standards.
