The 'Europa' heralded a new range of continental-positioned Grand Touring cars. The well-appointed cabriolet was built on Ferrari's longer 2,600-millimeter chassis.
This is one of two Ferrari 212 Inter Cabriolets designed by Pinin Farina in 1952 for Ferrari and the first PF-bodied Ferrari with left-hand drive. In the 1953 1000 Kilometers of Nurburgring, this graceful, leather-upholstered cabriolet was driven by Autosport journalist Maurice Gatsonides.
Serial # 0235 EU is one of the first Ferraris to receive Pinini Farina built coachwork. Originally, it was a show car, displayed at the Paris Motor Show in October of 1952 and the Brussels Motor Show in January of 1953. It was ultimately sold to the famed Ferrari Team owner Tony Parravano. It was taken directly to the Nurburgring track, for a 1,000km race. The car finished a respectable ninth.
Like many Ferraris of the era, it was sold to Luigi Chinetti. It ultimately passed through several American owners, including Alec Ulmann, the 12 Hour of Sebring pioneer. The current owner commissioned Ferrari Classiche to perform a ground up restoration. The car is Red Book Classiche Certified. The completed car was debuted at the the 2012 Concours d'Elegance at Villa d'Este in Italy. It was most recently displayed at the inaugural Audrain Concours in Newport, Rhode Island.
