1935 Duesenberg Model J Speedster

This Duesenberg SJ Gurney Nutting Speedster was ordered for the 28-year-old Maharaja Holkar of Indor through the Duesenberg dealership in London. The chassis and engine were shipped from Indianapolis to London where the body was fitted. The finished car was supposed to have been delivered to India, but amid fears of a Japanese invasion, many wealthy Indians fled their homes. The Maharaja eventually took delivery of this car, and an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900, at his mansion in Santa Ana, California, before sending the Duesenberg to his palace at Indore. The car was painted in the Indore state colors with the Maharaja's seal on the front fenders. It has chrome flagpoles and all-important blue and red lights to indicate whether the Maharaja or the Maharani is in the car.
