This is the fastest Mustang one could buy in 1968. It was identified as the R code Cobra Jet model and features a modified overhead valve V-8 engine that displaces 428 cubic-inches and produces 335 horsepower.
Most Cobra Jet Mustangs were raced and it's believed that was the case with this car. The cars competed on the drag strip against big block Chevrolets and Mopars of that era. It was delivered new to Hickman Ford in Charleston, Illinois.
The current owners acquired the car from an Illinois used car lot where it had been in storage for more than 20 years. Although it showed only 38,000 miles it was in need of a complete restoration, which was begun in October 2004 and completed in July of 2006.
