Sidney Allard built a reputation in England as a prominent builder of competitive racers. The Allard Motor Company was founded in 1946, though Sidney had been building and modifying vehicles since the mid-1930s. The post-war automobiles were mostly powered by Ford flathead V-8s and often fitted with Sidney's own intake manifolds and cylinder heads.
The K-2 was introduced in 1950. Located in the front of the K-2 was a grille that borrowed heavily from an Austin Healey. The seating was for two and has storage for small luggage in the boot. Under the hood could be found a variety of American V-8 engines with the 3.6 liter Ford unit being standard. Mercury, Chrysler, and Cadillac were popular options. Production of the K-2 continued until 1952 with a total of 119 being produced.
This K2 roadster is believed to be the prototype for the ill-fated 1951 New York Auto Show, which was not held that year.
Several engines were available, including a Ford 239 cubic-inch V-8, a Chrysler 331 cubic-inch V-8, and a Cadillac 331 cubic-inch V-8, which is installed in this car.
This K-2 chassis #91K-1708 was manufactured on July 10, 1950, and has the original invoice and build sheet. It was delivered to the Import Motor Car Company in New York City. The car left the United Kingdom without an engine, but 'modified to accommodate a Cadillac engine' with left-hand drive, black body, and red leather. Upon arrival in the United States, in 1950, a 331 Cadillac engine was installed. The fourth owner refurbished the car and switched out the leather interior and changed the color scheme to black and green leather. Besides having the original 331 c.i Cadillac engine is still intact the car also has an Edelbrock dual quad intake, Chris Nelson cam, Thomas Magnum rockers, Bill Frick Fordillac transmission adapter, headers and SS side pipes, Offenhauser valve covers, and a Borg Warner T-10 four-speed.
This car has raced in Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA) events, competed, and completed the 2011 Colorado Grand.
