This car (chassis number 0722TR) was sold new to Alfonso Gomez-Mena of Cuba in 1958. It was crashed in practice for the Grand Prix of Cuba and re-built at the Ferrari factory. Gomez-Mena drove it with Piero Drogo at LeMans in 1958 but did not finish. Then in autumn 1958 it was sold to Jim Hunt and Lloyd 'Lucky' Casner of Florida, and it won first in a race at Boca Raton and placed sixth in the Daytona 1000. In 1959 it was sold to David Lane, who raced it starting that year; in 1964 it was raced by R. Colot. It had the engine from 0758TR installed around this time. In 1976 it was bought by James Rogers. Its current owners acquired it in 1989 and have raced it extensively all over the world.
Ferrari 250 TR with chassis number 0722 was bodied by Scaglietti and fitted with a 2953cc V12 engine. Its first owner was Alfonso Gomez-Mena from Cuba who intended to raced the car in the Cuban Grand Prix. It was damaged in an accident during practice and was not entered in the race. It was sent back to the factory for repairs and then brought to the 1958 edition of the 24 Hours of LeMans. It was piloted by Gomez-Mena and Piero Drogo but failed to finish.
The cars next owner was a US based citizen. It was driven by Luck Casner in Boca Raton races with much success. Luck Casner and Jim Hunt were to co-drive the car at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1959, but the car 'DNS''ed. A few months later it was driven in the 1000km of Daytona to a sixth overall finish.
The car was sold to Dr. David Lane of Florida in 1959 who continued its racing tradition. At some point in its history, the car was fitted with another 250 TR engine number 0758TR.
In 1976 ownership passed to James Rogers and to its current owner in 1991. Since then, its owner, Anthony Wang, has raced it extensively in historic competition. It has competed in the Colorado Grand, the Monterey Historic, and the Wine Country Classic at Sears Point.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2008
