The Citroen 2CV was a mass produced car that made its debut in 1949. It provided basic transportation in a period of post-war austerity. Born from humble beginnings it went on to attain cult status as the favored car of the environmentally-concerned motorist. The original engine was a 375cc air-cooled flat-twin that, over the years, grew in size. By 1961 it had been enlarged to 602cc. Performance remained modest with a top speed of around 70 mph.
This Citroen 2CV has approximately 31,000 kilometers. The current owner acquired the car from a Dutch collection where it had resided since 1991. Prior to that, it was in a small number of owners in France. It is finished in pale blue with matching blue and white check upholstery. There is a linen roof, twin horse mascots on the bonnet, yellow headlamps lenses and Dutch license plates.
In 2012, the car was offered for sale at the Quail Lodge Sale in Carmel, CA presented by Bonhams Auction. The car was estimated to sell for $35,000 - $45,000 but was unable to find a buyer willing to satisfy its reserve. It would leave the auction unsold.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2012
