Studebaker hired Herman Rigling of Indianapolis to build the frames and bodies for five cars which were assembled with Studebaker running gear and Studebaker-prepared engines. The cars were tested at the Studebaker proving ground prior to being driven to Indianapolis. In 1932 the five-car Studebaker team finished 3rd, 6th, 13th, 15th, and 16th. In the 1933 race, Studebaker-powered cars finished 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 28th. This car finished 13th in 1932 and 9th in 1933.
