Originally sold to Cavalier Motors of Los Angeles, CA, chassis number 2607 left the Morgan factory on April 17th of 1953.
Following nearly 30 years of use in Southern California, 'Skimpy' was reconstructed by Lee Spencer as a re-creation of the Factory 1938 4/4 LeMans / TT Special (4 were built by the factory).
From 1983 to the present, this Morgan has been a successful competitor in vintage racing and has participated in over 50 events, winning numerous Best in Show awards. Some of the events/awards include the 1983 Morgans on the Lawn Judges Choice award, Morgans at Morrow Bay Best in Class, Limited Production; 1998 Visalia Motorsports Festival, Pre-War Race participant and awarded Best Prepared Pre-War car, CSRG; 1999 People's Choice Award, Pre-War cars, Button Willow All British Extravaganza; displayed by invitation at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco; 2000 successful competitor, the Pan Pacific Road Race (Los Angeles to Visalia); 2001 1st in Class, the Santa Barbara Concours (Active Retired Racecar Class); and 2002 successful finisher, the Chrysler Coronado Island Festival of Speed.
In the 1938 Morgan Cars catalog was a 4/4 TT Replica. Also available was a LeMans Replica of which only six were built. These 4/4s were all Coventry Climax 42-horsepower, 1098cc powered. The actual Replicas are very rare today. The owners of this example had Cavalier Motors of Los Angeles 'create' an all-steel, Triumph TR2, 1998cc, +4 roadster in the spirit of the LeMans/TT Replicas. This car has two upright spare wheels much like the 1936-1955 cars.
