1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale Coupe

The Giulietta Sprint Speciale was launched in 1957 and had a design derived from the Berlina Aerodinamica Tecnica, or B.A.T., show cars created by Carrozzeria Bertone in the mid-1950s. The Sprint Speciale was a stylish road-going touring car that added a degree of elegance to the entry-level Alfa Romeo line. 1,366 Giulietta SS cars were built by 1963, when the model was superseded by the larger-engined Giulia SS.

This example left the factory on November 27th of 1961. The first owner purchased the car on January 29th of 1962 in France and is recorded as being the 'Régie Nationale Usines, Billancourt, France,' which is, in fact, the Renault factory. Eventually the car found its way to Holland, where it was restored. It was then sold to a gentleman in Spain, for whom the current caretaker purchased it from in 2011 and brought it to the United States.

This car is equipped with a 1.3-liter 'Veloce' specification twin-cam engine, with twin two-barrel Weber carburetors and offers 116 horsepower. It is finished in red with black leather seats, piped in red to match the body.

In 2012, this car was offered for sale at RM Auction's Monterey, CA sale. It was estimated to sell for $175,000 - $225,000. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $132,000, inclusive of buyer's premium.
