1917 Ford Model T Navigation
Without question, the Model 'T' Ford was the most popular vehicle ever produced for the world's motorists. From October 1, 1908, to May 31, 1927, 15 million came off the assembly lines.
As racing became more popular in the late teens, many small towns would use horse race tracks at local fairgrounds for automobile racing. In some cases, the tracks were for car racing exclusively. These were very exciting races and made it possible for local competitors to try their hand at winning the big prize money. This car is an example of that type of racer seen at oval race tracks all across the United States. It is modified with speed accessories available in 1917 that doubled the horsepower and speed.
Manufacturer Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, Michigan
Engine 4 cylinders, 177 CID, with Rajo overhead valve conversion
Transmission 2-speed planetary with 3-speed Warford and 2-speed Ruckstell rear axle - 12 forward speeds!
Frame and Chassis modified Ford Model T steel frame
Wheels and Brakes mechanical expanding rear brakes and transmission brand brake with wood wheels
Body 2 seat racing body with offset seating
