1971 Alpine A110 1600S Navigation
One of the most successful sports cars to be produced in France in the post-war Period was the Alpine A110. It scored countless successes in all avenues of motorsports during the 1960s and 1970s. Victories include a win in the 1968 Tour des Alpes and 1,2,3 place in the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally.
The A110 was based on a concept dating back to the mid-1950s and followed the A108 in its use of a Fiberglass body over a tubular backbone chassis. When powered by the Gordini Renault engine, many claimed the Alpine A110 as 'France's 911.'
The Group IV variant won nearly every single rally from 1970 to 1973, achieving two constructor World Championship titles in 1971 and 1973.
This example, chassis number 17641, is a Group 4 example that rolled off the production line in 1971. It was delivered new to an Italian gentleman driver with a large chassis, gearbox, and bigger brakes. It was raced in several rallies in the early years of its life and equipped with 45mm Dellorto carburetors by the Italian owner.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2013
