In 1974, John Greenwood - along with GM and their wind tunnel facilities - developed a new aerodynamic wide body for the Chevy Corvette. The wide body design would later evolve into the fast back design which this Corvette displays. The new aero design was instrumental in helping Corvette achieve their racing success during the 1970s in both IMSA and TransAm Competition.

This particular Corvette began its racing career in 1976 in SCCA National events. Its owner and driver was Steve Beard of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1980, the car began racin in the new SCCA racing division called GT1. It qualified for the 1980 year end 'American Road Race of Champions' (ARRC) at Road Atlanta where it placed 8th. The following year, it moved to the top SCCA Professional racing division: The Trans Am Series. Steve competed in both 1981 and 1982 in the Trans Am Series at Brainard, Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, and Sears Point.

In 2009, the car was treated to a two year frame-off restoration to its 1981-82 Trans Am livery. In 2011, it began its historic racing career when it raced at the Monterey Historic Reunion. It returned to Monterey in 2012, followed by Sonoma Historic Motorsport Reunion at Sears Point Raceway in 2013 where it won from the pole in the IMSA/Trans Am Race.

This is a 1968 chassis with Greenwood-style Wide Body modifications. It has a 410 cubic-inch V8 engine built by HPS and offers 630 horsepower. There is a Jerico 4-speed gearbox, 10-bolt Corvette rear with 4.33 gears, Brodix heads, 4-bolt main caps, Scat crank, Carillo rods, roller cam, Jessel valve train, titanium valves, and a 22 gallon fuel cell. It is fitted with QA1 shocks, Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes and a MSD ignition system.
