1984 Jaguar XJR-5 Navigation
In a nutshell the Jaguar XJRs were a series of sports racing cars used by Jaguar-backed teams in both World Sportscar Championship (WSC) Group C and IMSA camel GTP series between 1983 and 1993.
This Group 44 (car number 10, race number 44) Jaguar XJR-5 raced in the IMSA GTP series in 1984 and 1985. It was driven by Bob Tullius, Doc Bundy, Chip Robinson, Brian Redman and Hurley Haywood. It went to Le Mans twice. Tullius was the energy behind the whole program for he built the first of the Fabcar-designed aluminum tub, V12 series in Herndon, Virginia.
Chassis number XJR5-010 was the last example of the XJR-5 to be constructed. The car was raced during the 1985 season and is believed to have raced for the Daytona 24 Hour race where it was driven by Chip Robinson and Claude Ballot-Lena. The car completed 212 laps before it retire prematurely due to an oil-pressure loss. The car is powered by a 6.3-liter 12-cylinder engine developing 625 horsepower.
This car won the Road Atlanta Nissan/Datsun 500 (kilometers) with Tullius and Bill Adam at the wheel and achieved two other podium finishes, it took on the role of back-up car at LeMans, and later became a test car for other 24-hour races.By Daniel Vaughan | Aug 2019
