The Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 was introduced at the Paris Salon in 1967 and was the largest and most luxurious Ferrari model to date. It was the pinnacle of high-speed transportation with luxurious accommodations for up to four passengers. Pininfarina was tasked with designing and constructing the low-slung fastback design and was the first Ferrari to be equipped with standard power steering and power brakes. It was also the company's first 2+2 with a self-leveling independent rear suspension.
Power was provided from a 4.4-liter single overhead camshaft V-12 engine which was fitted with three Weber carburetors and produced an impressive 320 horsepower. Inside, occupants were met with plush leather, luxurious veneered trim panels, the last wood-rimmed steering wheel in a production Ferrari, air conditioning, a stereo, and standard power windows.
Production last from 1967 through 1971 with approximately 800 examples production. During that time, the 365 GT 2+2s accounted for half of Ferrari production.
This particular example is a matching-numbers example with factory air conditioning, original Borrani chrome wire wheels, and rare Michelin XWX tires. It was given a professional repaint in Giallo Fly in 1998. At that time, the bumpers were re-chromed, new window rubbers were installed, and the trim around the windows was re-anodized as per original. Currently, the odometer shows 93,173 original miles.
In 2013, this car was offered for sale at RM Auctions Scottsdale, Arizona sale. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $148,500 inclusive of buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2013
